The Interviewing Process

We all hear a lot about first impressions and how important they are both in our professional and personal lives. As we begin 2024, we are still facing a highly competitive hiring landscape for executives in the SaaS industry and many of our clients are wondering how they can stand out and attract top talent without pushing their budgets. The answer is your interviewing process.

The interviewing process is the first time that a candidate is engaging with your company and your executive team, therefore this first impression can have lasting effects on a candidate’s perception of the organization. Companies who have strong interviewing processes stand out and are landing the top echelon of candidates in this competitive SaaS market.

So what are some things that you can do to either improve or completely revamp your interviewing process? Here are 3 tips that are a great place to start:

  1. Before interviewing any candidates, outline the entire process. This will include who will be on the interviewing team, the order of the interviews, and timeline of the interviewing process.  One of the biggest challenges for candidates is their time commitments for an interviewing process, as they are often gainfully employed. Set proper expectations.

  2. Prep your interviewing team on the position and clearly outline the profile and key things you are looking for in a candidate. This is one of the biggest mistakes that we see in a panel interviewing process. Often each department, or even employee, has a different vision of what is needed in a position.  Different perspectives can be helpful, but can also contradict or even completely misalign with what you might need as the hiring executive. Communicating the profile to the hiring team is critical to make sure everyone is looking for the correct credentials and character traits in a new leader. Get everyone on the same page!

  3. Have a plan to provide feedback. This is something we constantly stress at Integrity Network. Providing candidates with immediate feedback is a great way to keep them both engaged and excited about your company. Having a step or process for gathering and providing feedback can be a great asset to you in this competitive market.

As the beginning of each year is a fresh start, let’s start  the year with some strong first impressions.
